This is one of those rare recordings that demonstrates the phenomenal theatrical capabilities of creatures other than humans. Some vocal animals, such as baboons, use their habitats as gigantic performance halls in which to render their reverberant "operas" in harmony with other creatures. Using a forest site that provides a seven second decay for their voices, the baboons are joined by the chorus of dozens of remarkable birds, from fiery nicked nightjars to the rattling cisticolas.
Birds: Barred owlet, Scops owlet, natal francolin, freckled nightjar, cape turtledove, Egyptian goose, spotted wood dove, blue-eyed bulbul, bearded robin, fork-tailed drongo, terrestrial bulbul, yellow-billed bulbul, bleating warbler, hoopoe, buff-back shrike, bulbul shrike, African goshawk, black-headed oriole, crowned hornbill, trumpeter hornbill, striped kingfisher, chinspot battis, rattling cisticolas.
